Well I finally managed to obtain my test strip supplies via Walgreens pharmacy (A friend picked them up since I am disabled and home bound). I am not sure why Contour Next would be any different. ![]() We both get more than 1 strip per day - he uses Levemir, I do not use any insulin - with no question. I had to pay the deductible part of my strips on my first one and am expecting to be refunded the payment soon as it has been 6 months since I received them. Subsequent strip purchases just went through with him owing nothing. They explained to me that Medicare would forward the info on his strips to them and they would cover the deductible amount - this would be paid to Walmart and we would get the amount we paid for it back from Walmart. I called our supplemental when this happened with husband as the problem was that Walmart only takes one card for medical and the Part D - no room to enter the supplemental plan. We use Accu check meters and have not had any problems getting them covered at our Walmart pharmacy on our Part B and supplemental coverage.įirst time we filled them we were billed for the annual deductible left to be paid on the account. ![]() Those lancets are almost universal (there are maybe 2 designs for all the different manufacturers out there), but you may want to focus on getting the finest gauge lancets you can, as they feel better. If it helps, the lancets don't need to be Contour to work. So every time you see strips dirt cheap on Ebay, Amazon, where ever, now you know why, especially when you see that lovely yellow disclaimer saying the strips are for "Medicare Only".Īs far as actually getting through the process, just keep working it. That's, in essence, made you the victim of the original abusers. Well, the gov't decided to make it more difficult to abuse the syetem. I suppose the end users doing it thought is was a "victimless crime". The reason you're having trouble getting them "legit" is precisely because the gov't is trying to crack down on the "grey market", which is where you were previously buying them "on the sly".įor far too long, people were filling scripts under Medicare far in excess of what they were using, and "reselling" the excess to these redistributors. The folks that sell to the resellers seem to easily get cheap test strips via Medicare part B - Why can't I? Oddly enough when I purchase Contour Next test strips on my own from resellers they come marked with "For use by Medicare/Medicaid Beneficiaries ONLY". On a side note it really seems to me like the government is trying to kill diabetes patients who rely on Medicare part B for testing supplies by making the process as difficult as possible. Is it still possible to fill prescriptions for Contour Next test strips using Medicare part B? If so which methods are working for you? At which pharmacy chains? I am now attempting to transfer my prescriptions to Walgreens but the process there seems to be long and involved as well. After those problems were fixed, Safeway then claimed that Contour Next test strips are not covered by my insurance even though I specifically told them I was covered by Medicare part B. Then they claimed the doctor made a mistake describing the lancets. ![]() First they said the doctor used the wrong form. ![]() I then had my doctor send in a prescription to a local Safeway pharmacy. I googled around and found a few that way but none of them supply Contour Next strips. I first tried to find a mail order pharmacy but Medicare does not make accurate information available on those. I am trying to obtain supplies of Contour Next test strips via my Medicare part B coverage but having no luck in doing so.
